Accepting prospective mentor applications

Your experience could help shape someone's future.

HAVII is preparing to support meaningful mentoring relationships between qualified volunteer mentors and eligible young people.

HAVII mentorship positions are voluntary and unpaid. The platform is still in development. Submitting an application doesn't create a mentoring assignment or guarantee acceptance.

Mentor expectations

What the role will ask of you

Mentors aren't counselors or friends-for-hire. They're consistent, trusted adults who help a young person grow.

1

Be consistent and encouraging

Offer steady, positive guidance. Showing up reliably matters more than having all the answers.

2

Support goals and growth

Help a young person shape goals they chose and break them into steps they can take.

3

Model healthy boundaries

Communicate respectfully, keep appropriate boundaries, and never promise secrecy about safety concerns.

4

Complete onboarding and safeguarding

Take part in the required screening, training, and safeguarding processes before any match.

5

Use approved channels only

Communicate only through approved, monitored HAVII channels once the mentorship program launches. No personal numbers, social media, or private meetings.

The path to mentoring

How we expect the process to work

This is the planned process. Exact steps may change as policies are finalized, and no stage beyond the application is running yet.

  1. Open now

    Apply

Tell us about yourself and why you want to mentor.

  2. Planned

    Review and interview

A staff member reads your application and talks with you.

  3. Planned

    Screening

References and a background check, done through an approved provider.

  4. Planned

    Training

Safeguarding, boundaries, and how HAVII works.

  5. Planned

    Approval

A separate staff decision. Approval doesn't automatically make you an active mentor.

  6. Not active

    Matching

Only when the program launches and leadership approves it.

Mentor screening and safety

How we plan to screen every mentor

Every mentor is screened before they could ever be placed with a young person. Applying is the first step, and it isn't approval.

1

Eligibility

Mentors must be at least 21. All mentorship positions are voluntary and unpaid.

2

Interview and references

A structured interview with our team, and two references who aren't family.

3

Background screening

This may include criminal background checks, sex offender registry searches, and child abuse and neglect clearances where they apply. If you're asked to complete screening, you'll authorize it and give your identity details directly to an approved external screening provider, not through this website.

4

Training and agreements

Safeguarding training, a code of conduct, and a confidentiality agreement.

5

Approval, then a separate activation

Completing screening doesn't guarantee a mentorship assignment. HAVII is still in development and isn't matching mentors with young people yet.

We'll never ask for your Social Security number, fingerprints, ID images, or criminal history on this website. The screening process is being finalized with legal review and may change.

Be the support you once needed.

The application takes about 15 minutes. We won’t ask for ID, a Social Security number, or background-check details at this stage.
